How to Make the Perfect Iced Coffee at Home

How to Make the Perfect Iced Coffee at Home

It’s getting to that time of year again here in Australia where the mercury rises so much that even the most hardcore coffee drinkers break a sweat at the thought of their favourite steaming beverage. However, there is a saviour, the famous iced-coffee! While we’d like to think we make the best iced coffees in Australia here at Bay Coffee in Sydney, we wanted to give you some tips to make a pretty damn tasty one for yourself at home. Below are our tips for you to give it a try this summer:

Quality Beans are Key

It goes without saying but like any coffee, making iced-coffee at home or in a café requires top quality coffee beans. Once you’ve purchased your favourite beans, you’ll then need to brew your coffee just as you would if you were planning to drink it hot exactly how you personally like it, and then cooling it. Alternatively, you can use ground coffee beans mixed with cold water instead and strain the ground coffee out with a cheesecloth after 12 hours or more. Easy right? We’d like to think so. Again, emphasis on the bean quality because both methods will require a great bean to make great iced coffee at home.

What Else to Add to Your Home-Made Iced Coffee

The coffee is almost the simple part. To make the tasty iced-coffees at home just like your barista serves you at your local haunt you’re going to need to prepare some finishing touches. Iced Coffee is of course served over, well, ice. This means you’ll always need to have some ice prepared at all times, or to save your coffee from diluting as the ice melts, why not make a tray of ice cubes from the batch of coffee itself? Many people are also fond of a drop of milk in their iced coffee to enhance the flavour for their personal enjoyment, depending on whether or not you’re trying to keep your calories down, cream will also taste incredible or for a real treat why not even add some vanilla ice-cream?

The Finishing Touches

Finally, finish off your coffee with your favourite syrups or some sugar if you have a sweet tooth. The beauty of iced-coffee is that it can be as simple as literally coffee and ice or it can be a yummy summer treat with ice-cream, cinnamon and hazelnut syrup. The choice is yours!

Here at Bay Coffee, we have a café, shop and our own roastery right here in Neutral Bay, Sydney. Drop in for a cup of coffee and we’ll help you pick the right beans for perfect home-made iced coffees all summer long!
